Shoruq Organization has recently launched a new music program that aims to provide a group of young children; the vast majority of whom are refugees, with extensive training sessions on how to play the Melodica (a free-reed instrument similar to the pump organ and harmonica), Oud, and Tabla (Drums). Shoruq also established a choir made up of young children, who receive consistent training. The Music Program serves as an extension of the already-existing Art Program of Shoruq Organization, which effectively fosters and develops Palestinians’ artistic skills and passion for creativity.
The launch of this music program abides by Shoruq’s strong vision of forming a creative generation that is able to utilize various tools and mediums of art to express voice their thoughts independently and creatively. The program also seeks to assist the Palestinian youth in gaining unique art-related skills that are not typically available to them as a result of the Israeli occupation, which plays a vital role in depriving children of their creativity and right to express themselves.
The Art Program of Shoruq Organization provides the Palestinian youth and children with the opportunity to express themselves and the main issues they are subjected to by utilizing art as a primary mode of expression. It also assigns them with the fundamental responsibility of preserving the Palestinian culture and portraying it in a modern and innovative manner that aligns with this age of time. Further to this, the Art Program supplements the Palestinian youth with the necessary tools to exploit their inner energy and skills in order to highlight the case of Palestinian refugees through an effective approach that primarily relies on artistic advocacy for the Palestinian cause specifically and all world refugees in general on a local and global scale.
